Yesterday, Ministers Mantashe and Creecy delivered their budget vote speeches for the Departments of Mineral Resources and Energy and Environment, Forestry and Fisheries respectively.
South African politicians have had ample opportunity this year to initiate bold conversations around the growing climate crisis and to provoke decisive action. Yet, in yesterday’s speeches, Mantashe continued to flirt with the idea of nuclear and Creecy stopped short of declaring a climate emergency.
