Companies usually expect their standby generators to offer an uninterruptible supply of electricity. However, some generators are not inspected regularly or protected securely. This results in the generator not being able to supply electricity when needed. Cummins has launched a cloud-based remote monitor for use with its range of standby generators. The PC550 monitors a generator’s electrical and mechanical parameters and communicates out-of-range readings directly via SMS or the Internet. This makes makes it possible to monitor remote generators 24 hours a day, every day. In many cases, standby generators serve as a safety asset, ensuring a reliable source of electricity to mission-critical equipment. For this reason, a generator is a strategic asset which should be monitored at all times. The monitor alerts relevant people in the organisation when various parameters including low fuel, over temperature, and vibration exceed predetermined levels.
