Energy council offers young innovators opportunities

The energy world is undergoing a grand transition driven by a combination of factors. Christophe Frei, the secretary general and CEO of the World Energy Council, says the fast-paced development of new technologies, together with an unstoppable digital revolution combined with global environmental challenges, present innovation opportunities for companies and start-ups all over the world.

All over the world, young entrepreneurs are rising to the climate change challenge and developing new ideas on the best ways to combine energy efficiency, storage technologies and renewables energies. The key to our future, says Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of the federal republic of Germany, lies in their creativity and the willingness to take part new paths.

The World Energy Council’s “Start up energy transition (SET) 2018” platform promotes innovation in energy transition. The SET Award will identify the most promising global innovators, bring them to the Tech Festival in Berlin and connect them with a wider network of global energy leaders.

Together with corporates, investors and public officials, we will shape the energy system of the future. The SET Award is a global competition that identifies the most promising start-ups worldwide working on ideas affecting global energy transition and climate change.

The SET Award is accepting applications until 31 January 2018

The SET platform is comprised of the annual SET Award and SET Tech Festival. The SET Award is an international competition for start-ups and young companies worldwide who are working on ideas affecting global energy transition and climate change. There are six different categories applicants can present their projects in, all with the aim of clean energy promotion. SET 2018 was launched during COP23 in Bonn at Climate Planet. The application portal opened on 14 November 2017 and will close on 31 January 2018.

The three most promising start-ups in each category will pitch their business ideas at our annual summit – the SET Tech Festival – which brings our impressive network together next spring. This event takes place alongside the BETD, and welcomes participants from the private and public energy scene. Watch last year’s Tech Festival recap here.

The Award Ceremony will be held following the Tech Festival at a reception hosted by the “Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue” (BETD) in the spring of 2018. Over 1000 delegates from 70 countries will take part in this Federal Government conference. Key insights from the 2018 innovators’ network will also be incorporated into the global energy dialogue through the analysis work and exchange platforms of the World Energy Council.
