Last Friday, the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) approved all recommendations made by its Technical Advisory Body (TAB) regarding emission reduction units that are eligible under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). ICAO’s decision clarifies a number of issues that had been raised in light of earlier decisions.
*In particular, the approved recommendations broaden the range of Natural Climate Solutions now accepted under CORSIA by: *
1. *Accepting the VCS Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+ (JNR) Framework,* the first framework for crediting jurisdictional REDD+ and nested projects; 2. *Including small-scale standalone REDD+ projects *as eligible under CORSIA; and 3. *Permitting a variety of Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) projects* as standalone activities.
