Innovative Pathways Forward – Two Verra Announcements

Rimba Raya is 1st project to register to SD VISta; release of 1st blue carbon conservation methodology approved under any major GHG program Announcement September 2020 View this email in your browser [image: VCS Email Banner] Dear Peter,
We are writing to share two exciting updates that open innovative pathways forward for our projects, unlocking new sources of finance for them.
First, we are pleased to share that *Rimba Raya is the first project to register to the Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta) . *Rimba Raya is a 64,500-hectare peat swamp in Central Kalimantan that is also the world’s largest privately funded orangutan sanctuary. Registration under SD VISta enables projects to assess and report the sustainable development benefits they generate directly against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will be valued by buyers who want to know that the carbon credits they purchase and retire have additional benefits beyond reducing emissions. Projects registered to SD VISta are also of interest to impact investors who seek to ensure that their investments support efforts that drive real impact and transformation. Read more about this exciting milestone here .
*We also just released the first blue carbon conservation methodology approved under any major GHG program. *The methodology, which is a revision to the VCS REDD+ Methodology Framework (VM0007) , adds blue carbon conservation and restoration activities as eligible project types. A subcategory of Natural Climate Solutions, blue carbon projects have the unique ability to draw down atmospheric carbon and reduce emissions yet often struggle to reach their full potential. This new methodology is expected to unlock new sources of finance for tidal wetland conservation and restoration activities. Read more here .
