XiNA solar one, the latest CSP system built by Abengoa at a site near Poffader in the Northwest province, was inaugurated on 18 June 2018. Part of window 3 of The REIPPPP, the plant was successfully commissioned in August 2017, and has been delivering power to the national grid since then. The inauguration was attended by dignitaries including the Minister of Energy, Mr Jeff Radebe; members of the local community in Pofadder, the media; and the business fraternity.
Xina Solar one is the third Abengoa CSP project, the other two being Kaxu solar one, a 100 MW parabolic trough system, and KHi solar one, a 50 MW solar tower system. The plant required an investment of R9,459-billion for its construction. The project employed 1300 people during construction, and is run by a staff of 80 full time employees.
