Nuclear conference meets in South Africa

Approximately 100 delegates from 18 countries, representing 52 organisations, gathered in the Kruger National Park recently to attend the international MECA SENS conference on high precision analysis techniques which can be used in the fabrication of components for nuclear reactors. The conference was opened by Dr. Kelvin Kemm, the chairman of Necsa, who said the delegates were “bricklaying with atoms.”  For South Africa to be able to design, fabricate and export nuclear reactor components, it is necessary to be in control of the entire technology value chain from the fundamental mathematics to the factory fabrication, Dr. Kemm said.
