Areva has upgraded the instrumentation and control technology of the Krško nuclear power plant located in Slovenia. The system monitors and records the neutron flux in the reactor core. Movable flux sensors are brought into the reactor pressure vessel to collect data which provide significant information for the operator to ensure safe operation of the plant. Under this contract, the company manufactured the flux sensors and electromechanical components, supplied the control cabinets, provided qualification testing and installed and commissioned the system at the plant. The successful implementation of the neutron flux monitoring system at Krško demonstrates the company’s capabilities to perform comprehensive nuclear power plants’ instrumentation and control systems retrofits of various designs. The company has implemented complete core instrumentation systems in more than 100 nuclear power plants worldwide.
