SAPVIA welcomes new Minister of Energy

Mmamoloko Kubayi

The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) has congratulated Mmamoloko Kubayi on her ministerial appointment to the energy portfolio. The association looks forward to engaging with the new minister and her team around how to give effect to the transformation of the energy sector and the role that solar PV can play in this journey. The role of energy provision, from a technical, environmental and socio-economic delivery perspective, has become increasingly contested in South Africa over the last few years. The historical predominance of Eskom and coal-fired power is being challenged by the rise in the deployment of renewable energy. Renewable energy now offers competitive economics, sustainable job creation, and is also able to make an immediate contribution to the country’s commitments toward climate change mitigation and water management.
