Danish company Eltronic has developed a special safety system known as a gas valve train (GVT) that is capable of safely and reliably switching off the supply of highly explosive natural gas. The instrumentation for the system is provided by Siemens. The GVT is based on the double block and bleed principle. This means that, in the event of an incident, three main valves and six secondary valves close the gas pipeline on the motor side and on the gas supply. The pipework is then bled via another valve before it is completely cleansed of residual gas with a nitrogen purge.
