ABB recently announced that it has won an order from Bechtel Infrastructure and Power to provide a turnkey substation solution. The substation will integrate electricity generated by the Cricket Valley Energy Station, a new combined cycle natural gas-fueled power plant located in Dover. It will add more than 1100 MW of power and enhance the reliability of the New York transmission grid, benefitting about a million homes in the region. The 345 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation will be built with the highest levels of reliability and safety. ABB’s GIS technology will enhance operational reliability, efficiency and safety while minimising substation footprint and maintenance requirements. This is the second such substation ABB is providing for Bechtel – the first being the 345 kV GIS substation for the Hummel Energy Center to be energised later this year.
