Onodwa Jantjies from Rocklands Intermediate School, rose above her peers when she won the Bright Spark award for being the best speaker at the Eskom Schools’ Nuclear Debate launched in the Eastern Cape recently. Loyiso Tyabashe, acting GM for Nuclear New Build said that Jantjies embodied the principle of Eskom’s debating programme on nuclear, which is a passion for knowledge and engagement. She understood her role in the team, structured her speech perfectly thus guiding the house on the team’s strategy and pillars of their argument. She was courteous and engaging on facts and her presentation style. The Rocklands debate team was the overall winner of the debate competition and each of its debating team members received a tablet, a certificate and a backpack. The school also took home a floating trophy. Limekhaya Secondary School team members each received a gift voucher worth R4000, a certificate and a backpack. St Colmcille Senior Secondary School team members each received a gift voucher worth R2500, a certificate and a backpack.
